    Designated an American Masterpiece Touring Artist by the NEA, Elizabeth Ellis grew up in the Appalachian Mountains hearing stories from her grandfather, a mountain minister. The “Divine Miss E” is a versatile and riveting teller of Appalachian and Texas tales and stories of heroic American women, though her personal stories are arguably her best. An award-winning author, she is a recipient of the John Henry Faulk award from the Tejas Storytelling Association, and the NSN ORACLE Circle of Excellence and Lifetime Achievement awards. It was a breathtaking performance to witness. Elizabeth was so layered and magical and real.  Her timing impeccable, her delivery effortless, her impact extraordinary. – Ann Arbor Observer

    This event will be held on the first sunday of every month, with the goal of keeping Rocky Fork's trails and creeks free of litter. Meet Park Ranger Cory Franklin at the Park Ranger Station (280 Jennie Moore Rd.). From there we will go to our cleanup location. Rocky Fork has the cleanest water of any tributary in the Nolichucky River Watershed. With 2,000 acres of park land surrounded by 8,000 acres of National Forest. We aim to keep Rocky Fork pristine and would love to have your help! Gloves and trash bags will be provided but feel free to bring your own supplies. All ages welcome!

  • Sorghum Festival and Breakfast

    The Sorghum Festival will allow visitors to have the opportunity to observe sorghum cane being processed into molasses using a mule-powered mill. During the morning hours, Maggie the mule will be out turning the cast iron rollers squeezing out the delectable juices to be boiled down into molasses. Just to watch Maggie work is worth a visit to the site! Come early as the sorghum crew will be crushing the sorghum cane and boiling the sweet juices throughout the morning and into the early afternoon hours. The sorghum breakfast from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. will feature biscuits with gravy or sorghum, sausage, bacon, eggs, oatmeal, grits, and drinks.     This event will be held on the first sunday of every month, with the goal of keeping Rocky Fork's trails and creeks free of litter. Meet Park Ranger Cory Franklin at the Park Ranger Station (280 Jennie Moore Rd.). From there we will go to our cleanup location. Rocky Fork has the cleanest water of any tributary in the Nolichucky River Watershed. With 2,000 acres of park land surrounded by 8,000 acres of National Forest.     This event will be held on the first sunday of every month, with the goal of keeping Rocky Fork's trails and creeks free of litter. Meet Park Ranger Cory Franklin at the Park Ranger Station (280 Jennie Moore Rd.). From there we will go to our cleanup location. Rocky Fork has the cleanest water of any tributary in the Nolichucky River Watershed. With 2,000 acres of park land surrounded by 8,000 acres of National Forest. We aim to keep Rocky Fork pristine and would love to have your help! Gloves and trash bags will be provided but feel free to bring your own supplies. All ages welcome!

    Want to learn how to use the longsword? Here's your chance! We teach intro to longsword on the first Monday of every month. We meet upstairs at Mulligan's Irish Pub. Class starts at 6:30 pm. All you need to bring is a pair of close toed shoes and some clothing you don't mind sweating in, and we'll provide the rest! Recommended minimum age is 14 years old.

  • Art Explorers

    In Art Explorers, children ages 8-12 learn about famous artists and their distinct styles, sparking discovery of art history as well as creativity. Young art enthusiasts will then complete their very own masterpieces inspired by that session’s featured art style. This winter, we will meet at 4 p.m. in the Library's Jones Meeting Center on the following Fridays: December 12, January 9, and February 13.
