Join us for a hike up to Headwaters Trail. We will view Rocky Fork Creek and take in mountain views from the Whiteoak Flats Overlook. This hike has both scenic cascades and mountain vistas. (Rescheduled) Remembering Flint Creek (1789): A Guided History Hike

Join us on January 18th, 237 years later, to commemorate the Massacre at Flint Creek. We will hike to the confluence of Rocky Fork and Flint Creek, discussing events leading up to the battle in 1789. At the battlefield, we will read the after-action report of John Sevier (the only first-hand account we have of the event), and fire a volley for the all fallen warriors. We will meet in the campfire interpretive area. All are welcome but we ask that you dress for the occasion and wear proper clothing and footwear for a 2-mile round-trip hike. In the event of inclement weather, this program will be canceled.

Nocturnal Night Hike

Experience Rocky Fork after dark on a guided three-mile hike into the Appalachian wilderness. While clouds may hide the stars, the forest reveals its own secrets. We’ll listen for owl calls with the Merlin app, search for salamanders and foxfire, and use UV lights to uncover glowing lichens and fungi. Discover how the park is working toward Dark Sky certification and measure the quality of the night sky with our Dark Sky meter. If skies clear, we’ll use a Celestron telescope for an up-close look at the cosmos. At the historic battle site, rangers will share stories of nocturnal species, frontier history, and ways you can help protect the night sky. Red-light flashlights will be provided to preserve night vision....

Off Trail Adventure Series – Firefly Falls

Join Ranger Cory for an extreme off-trail hike to Rocky Fork’s largest hidden waterfall, Firefly Falls, which plunges approximately 220 feet. This four-mile trek follows Rocky Fork Trail and Flint Creek Trail before leaving the path for a rugged one-mile creek walk. Expect two creek crossings each way, downed trees from Hurricane Helene, and challenging terrain that requires flexibility and endurance. Along the way we will pass the abandoned fish hatchery, a glimpse into the park’s history, before venturing into areas normally closed to the public (off-trail hiking is not permitted in Tennessee State Parks, 11-1-108).
