SUMMARY:Off Trail Adventure Series - Firefly Falls
DESCRIPTION:Join Ranger Cory for an extreme off trail hike to Rocky Fork’s largest waterfalls\, Firefly Falls\, roughly 220 feet. This four mile trek follows Rocky Fork Trail and Flint Creek Trail before leaving the path for a rugged one mile creek walk into a remote and rarely seen section of the park.Along the way we will pass the abandoned Rocky Fork fish hatchery\, a glimpse into the park’s history\, before venturing into terrain that few visitors ever see.\nYou WILL get wet.\nParticipants should expect to walk directly through the creek during multiple crossings and during roughly one mile of creek travel. There will be two creek crossings each way\, and hikers should be prepared to navigate slick rocks\, uneven creek beds\, and downed trees from Hurricane Helene. Water may be up to a foot deep depending on conditions. Because of the rugged terrain\, this program is best suited for experienced hikers who are comfortable with creek walking and off trail travel.\nWhat to Bring:\nClosed toed hiking shoes\, boots\, or water shoes with good traction.\nWear something you do not mind getting wet.\nBringing an extra pair of socks is recommended.Warm layers as conditions in the gorge can be coolerWater and snacksA sense of adventure\nImportant Notes:\nIn the event of inclement weather the program will be canceled for safety.\nReminder:\nOff trail hiking is prohibited in all Tennessee State Parks (TCA 11 1 108). This ranger led program offers a rare opportunity to experience a remote part of Rocky Fork that is normally closed in order to protect the park’s natural resources.Directions:\nFrom Johnson City or ErwinTake I 26 South to Exit 43 and follow signs to Rocky Fork State Park. Turn right onto TN 352 and continue for six miles. Turn right onto Rocky Fork Road and follow for 0.8 miles to the gravel parking lot. From Asheville or Mars HillTake I 26 North to Exit 50. Turn left onto Upper Higgins Road for 0.6 miles\, then right onto Old Asheville Highway for 2.2 miles. Turn left onto Rocky Fork Road and follow for 0.8 miles to the gravel parking lot.

SUMMARY:Rocky Fork After Dark: Spring Emergence
DESCRIPTION:The Rocky Fork After Dark hiking series is an ongoing collection of guided hikes focused on the unique nocturnal species that are rarely experienced by park visitors.\nThis month’s program\, Spring Emergence\, highlights some of the first fireflies of the season\, including the spring treetop flasher and spring four flasher. As we move through the forest after dark\, we will also look for nocturnal salamanders as they begin their nightly hunt. If we listen closely\, we may even hear the call of a whip-poor-will or one of the many owls and mammals that call Rocky Fork home.\nThis guided hike is approximately 3 miles round trip to the Eastman Recreation Area and battlefield.\nMeeting Location: Park Trailhead\nWhat to Bring\nClosed-toe shoes\nWater\nWarm clothing\nFLASH LIGHTS WILL BE PROVIDED BY PARK\nDirections:\nFrom Johnson City or Erwin:\nTake I-26 South to Exit 43.
