This is a historical event. My first encounter with SAWC was a reading at Down Home circa 1983 that Jim Webb invited me to attend. I wish I had a roll call of who was there because I didn't know anyone else. However, poet after poet offered lines that I cannot forget. For the first time, I felt I was part of a forward movement of writers who felt the same as I did about the mountains - advocates of the place and its people. Join us on a guided hike up to the park high point on top of Birchfield Camp, 4,310 feet. The high point is the highest point in the state park system. Along our hike we will notice the change from cove mountain forest to northern hardwoods. We will discuss the geography and hydrology of Rocky Fork.
