The Sorghum Festival for Tipton-Haynes is developed around the need for sweeteners for foods in the past. Sugar was really expensive to get sent all the way up from the Caribbean and sugar cane could not grow up here. Sorghum is a different variety of this plant that can grow in our soils and produces Sorghum Molasses. The process is the same as you harvest the cane, crush it for the juices, and then boil the juice into a sticky molasses. This can then be used to sweeten just about anything you cook. Enjoy a family friendly evening with fun crafts and great stories. Halloween crafts for kids will be offered during daylight hours. Storytellers will be within the mid-1800s barn. Take a spooky hayride around the historic grounds. Admission is $6 for adults and $3 for children twelve and under. Tipton-Haynes members are free!

Visions of Christmas: 1862

Come and enjoy an 1862 rendition of a Haynes family Christmas. You will tour the house and watch as the Haynes family prepare for Christmas amidst the Civil War. Treats will be cooked on the open hearth of our cabin. Reservations for tours are appreciated. Admission is $6 for adults and $3 for children twelve and under.
