SUMMARY:Peddler's Post Flea Market
DESCRIPTION:The Tipton-Haynes Historical Association\, Inc. will be hosting the Peddler’s Post vendor flea market on May 2. The day will center around the local artisan as they present their hard work and products. From 9am to 6pm the public can browse through the numerous and various merchant booths while several food trucks/vendors will be on site throughout the day. There will also be local historic based demonstrators showcasing their talents.\nThere is no admission as we hope that you will help us contribute to and aid our local artisans and community. Donations to the Tipton-Haynes non-profit are welcomed and will go to help the site continue its mission values.

This dinner will be prepared by your Tipton-Haynes Board of Trustees and staff with a choice of beef spaghetti or chicken alfredo with a Caesar salad\, grilled vegetables\, garlic bread and a dessert. SUMMARY:Summers Past History Program
DESCRIPTION:Participants ages 6-14 can learn about their local history through historic-based crafts\, games\, music\, storytelling\, & nature with this immersive summer program for kids. The first week will center around the site’s Native American history\, the second week will focus on the Revolutionary War and Colonel John Tipton\, the third week will center on the Civil War and Landon Carter Haynes\, and the fourth week will cover the Simerly family of the early 1900s. Each week is limited to 25 participants.\nEach week\, all campers will have the chance to play various games and work on various craft-based activities that relate to the week’s historic time period. Campers will also get hands-on experience with original and replica artifacts. The ever-popular “Carter’s Raid\,” or capture the flag\, takes place each week\, along with a watermelon hunt that will challenge the campers to work as a team to search using various clues about the site’s historic structures. In addition\, a historical drama performed by the campers will be presented to parents and relatives on the last day of camp.\nAdmission is $150 per child for nonmembers and $125 per child for Tipton-Haynes members. SUMMARY:Sorghum Festival and Breakfast
DESCRIPTION:The Sorghum Festival will allow visitors to have the opportunity to observe sorghum cane being processed into molasses using a mule-powered mill. During the morning hours\, Maggie the mule will be out turning the cast iron rollers squeezing out the delectable juices to be boiled down into molasses. Just to watch Maggie work is worth a visit to the site! Come early as the sorghum crew will be crushing the sorghum cane and boiling the sweet juices throughout the morning and into the early afternoon hours.\nThe sorghum breakfast from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. will feature biscuits with gravy or sorghum\, sausage\, bacon\, eggs\, oatmeal\, grits\, and drinks. Here is the chance to try sorghum molasses on a biscuit! Visitors can also enjoy touring the historic structures of the property that will take you back to the 1800s. Local bluegrass and folk music will be played within the nineteenth century barn throughout the day. The historic cave will be open for everybody of all ages to explore and find their inner spelunker. Local food trucks will be on site for visitors to enjoy a picnic lunch. There will also be several local vendors selling homemade crafts.\nAdmission is $10 for adults and $5 for children with breakfast. Without breakfast admission is $8 for adults and $4 for children. Tipton-Haynes members are free!

SUMMARY:Stories from the Pumpkin Patch
DESCRIPTION:The Stories from the Pumpkin Patch will feature several storytellers from the Jonesborough International Story Tellers Guild. These storytellers will be telling tales of old folk lore\, Fall time stories\, and good family fables. During the daylight hours\, various Fall and Halloween crafts will be available for kids. There will be various Halloween themed face paintings at $2 for children of all ages. If you dare\, visitors can explore the site’s ancient and spooky cave. A hayride around the site will be provided by Johnson City Kubota. Hot apple cider will be heated to perfection and served out of the mid-nineteenth century George Haynes cabin. The Tipton-Haynes house will be open for visitors to leisurely stroll through the historic halls and rooms. Several local vendors will be selling their homemade crafts while food trucks will allow visitors to have a picnic.\nAdmission is $8 for adults and $5 for children. Tipton-Haynes members are free!

DESCRIPTION:You are invited to be our guest as the site begins the celebration of the holiday season. Experience what it was like for the various families that lived at Tipton-Haynes during the Eighteenth through Twentieth Centuries. Come see the glow of oil lamps and the smell of holiday greenery that will adorn the historic house. Reenactors and volunteers will be in period clothing to recreate the atmosphere of the excitement leading up to Christmas and teach about the different traditions of the holiday season. Enjoy family fun as holiday snacks and drinks will be prepared over the open hearth in the cabin.\nPlease contact the site at 423-926-3631 to make a reservation for the Christmas candlelight tour or for more information. Tours begin at 1:15 p.m. and continue every twenty minutes until the last tour at 4:55 pm. Reservations are strongly suggested prior to December as space will be limited.\nAdmission is $6 for adults and $3 for children. Tipton-Haynes members are free!
