Come along and read your work, and listen to some fine local wordsmiths.You can sign up to read when you arrive. Our reading lists have been filling up quickly, so please arrive early to get on the sign-up sheet. It will open at 6:45. We will have two rounds, about eighteen readers total for the night, and a few alternate slots in case there is time.No more than 4 minutes per poet, per round.
Families are invited to the Children's Library one night per month for game night fun. The Library will provide board and video games to learn, play, and enjoy together. You can also try out the Library's new Infinity Game Table, a giant touch-screen packed with classics like Clue, Operation, and Candy Land. Family Game Night will be held from 6-7:30 p.m. on the following Mondays this fall: September 8, October 27, and November 10 and on the following Mondays this winter: December 22 and February 23. This event will be held on the first sunday of every month, with the goal of keeping Rocky Fork's trails and creeks free of litter. Meet Park Ranger Cory Franklin at the Park Ranger Station (280 Jennie Moore Rd.). From there we will go to our cleanup location. Rocky Fork has the cleanest water of any tributary in the Nolichucky River Watershed. With 2,000 acres of park land surrounded by 8,000 acres of National Forest. The Appalachian Men’s Ensemble will present “Take a Hike,” a program of music inspired by nature, at two locations in May. The first concert will be Thursday, May 14, at 7:30 pm at the Gray United Methodist Church, 2108 Oak Street in Gray. The second concert will be Friday, May 15, at 7:30 pm at Central Presbyterian Church, 331 Euclid Avenue in Bristol, VA. The concert program includes well-known favorite pieces such as “Wild Mountain Thyme,” “Edelweiss”, and “Climb Every Mountain.” In addition, the ensemble will perform several pieces by local composers, including an original composition called “Leaf” by Evelyn Pursley-Kopitzke and a new arrangement of “The Happy Wanderer” by Don Brandon.
