NOLI & Meet-The-Mountain Hike on the Balds of Roan

Join us on the beautiful Balds of Roan for this co-sponsored hike between NOLI and the Meet-the-Mountains Festival. Our route will take us from Carver's Gap to Grassy Ridge Bald. It is an out-and back- hike approximately 5 miles round trip and is rated as moderate difficulty. It has an elevation gain of ~1250 feet; approximately 1000 feet of which are in the first 2.5 miles. The hike will begin at 8 am; we ask people to arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the start time. Due to the popularity of this trailhead, carpooling is recommended. “Can’t Get Away with This”

Inspired by a true crime from Jonesborough’s past, “Can’t Get Away with This” is an original play written by Anne G’Fellers-Mason. It will be performed at the McKinney Center on July 18th, 19th, 25th, and 26th at 7:30 pm and on July 19th and 26th at 2:00 pm. On August 26, 1928, the body of Officer James Hood was found on Main Street on the lawn of the Second Presbyterian Church, now the Central Christian Church, and it was obvious he’d met with foul play. The intense investigation, arrests, and court case that followed consumed the attention of the town for several weeks. But justice was never found for Officer Hood, and the rifts that followed the jury’s decision pushed...

Andy Hedges is a songster, reciter, and guitarist. His varied repertoire includes classic cowboy poetry recitations, obscure cowboy songs, dust bowl ballads, and blues. The Lubbock, Texas native has always had an interest in poems and folk music from the old days of the American West. He taught himself to play the guitar when he was fourteen, then began collecting classic cowboy poems and traditional cowboy songs. Hedges has released ten albums.
