The Civic Chorale announces its upcoming concerts entitled Visions of Light, The concerts will
take place Saturday, October 19 at 7:00 PM at St. John’s Episcopal Church, Johnson City, and
Sunday, October 20 at First Presbyterian Church, also in Johnson City. While no tickets are
required, there is a $15 suggested donation at the door.
The Sunday concert will be specifically geared toward including and engaging children, helping
them learn to appreciate the choral arts. This family-friendly program will feature interactive
elements and educational moments designed to introduce young audiences to the beauty of
choral music in an accessible and exciting way.
The program includes masterpieces by Johann Sebastian Bach, Thomas Morley, and Edvard
Grieg. The choir will also showcase works of contemporary composers, including Alex Favazza,
Jr., Elaine Hagenberg, Eric Whitacre, and Eric Barnum.
At the close of each concert, The Civic Chorale will perform two pieces in memory of Dr. Lisa
Adkins Runner, the choir’s long-time accompanist, who passed away August 30.
These performances mark the debut of Sarah Malone as the fifth conductor in the 51-year history
of The Civic Chorale. The choir will be accompanied by Joy Nagy.
“We are excited to present a program that bridges the gap between the timeless works of the past
and the vibrant compositions of today,” said Malone. “Our goal is to create an unforgettable
experience for our audience, one that resonates with both tradition and innovation.”
