Participants ages 6-14 can learn about their local history through historic-based crafts, games, music, storytelling, & nature with this immersive summer program for kids. The first week will center around the siteโ€™s Native American history, the second week will focus on the Revolutionary War and Colonel John Tipton, the third week will center on the Civil War and Landon Carter Haynes, and the fourth week will cover the Simerly family of the early 1900s. Each week is limited to 25 participants.
Each week, all campers will have the chance to play various games and work on various craft-based activities that relate to the weekโ€™s historic time period. Campers will also get hands-on experience with original and replica artifacts. The ever-popular โ€œCarterโ€™s Raid,โ€ or capture the flag, takes place each week, along with a watermelon hunt that will challenge the campers to work as a team to search using various clues about the siteโ€™s historic structures. In addition, a historical drama performed by the campers will be presented to parents and relatives on the last day of camp.
Admission is $150 per child for nonmembers and $125 per child for Tipton-Haynes members. Visitย http://www.tipton-haynes.org/summer-programย for more information and to register your child.
