At this hoot, we hope to gather for people to engage in community, expression, and poetry. We’ve wrestled with whether or not to have the hoot this month, but we recognize some many need this right now, so we want to hold space for each other.
We will collect items for local donation as well as donate all the money from passing the hat to a local organization. Stay tuned for more information about the details of this.
As the poet Scott Honeycutt always says, these hoots are not time taken away, but time given back to us, a way to refill our cups, and we have to hope that poetry and expression can bring us together and provide an avenue to do that.
We also want to say that we hope you all are safe and doing okay (or as okay as anyone can be right now). I know that many in our collective were directly affected by the hurricane, and our hearts really go out to you, your families, and the community at this time. Please reach out to us if there’s anything we can do to assist. I know many in the collective are doing what they can to provide aid, and we’d be more than willing to connect people who need help with people willing to help.

Sign up sheet opens at 6:45 and the readings begin at 7 sharp.
Our reading lists have been filling up quickly, so please arrive early to get on the list. It is first come, first serve. We will have two rounds, eighteen readers total for the night. If time permits, we will possibly take alternates.
We are trying to be better with time management, so please note that each poet gets up to 4 minutes. This includes any extra things you may want to say about your poem. We encourage you to practice your piece so you know how long it is, or take your phone up to the stage with you to keep track. We will notify you if you go over time.
