Take a walk through time in one of Tennessee’s most storied mountain hollers. Nestled within the 2,300-acre wilderness of Rocky Fork State Park, deep in the heart of the Unicoi Bear Preserve and surrounded by 40,000 acres of national forest, this ranger-led hike will explore over 230 years of history.
From ancient Indigenous lifeways of the Middle Archaic era to the tragic events of the Flint Creek Massacre, from early Cherokee and settler interactions to the timber boom and the birth of the park itself, Trails Through Time uncovers the many chapters written into this rugged Appalachian landscape.
Starting at the Campfire Interpretive Area and traveling to the historic Flint Creek Battlefield, this guided hike is fully accessible and perfect for participants using all-terrain wheelchairs.
Offered as part of the Meet the Mountains Festival 2025, this special program invites you to step into the past and see how it still shapes the forest around us today.
