Ivy Sheppard began collecting records and sounds of her southwest Virginia home at the age of 4. Today her collection includes thousands of 78rpm records, and she’ll be sharing those recordings Thursday night at the Down Home. Sheppard says. “I’ve got lots of small label, regionally produced records that there might be only one or two copies of–music recorded right here in Johnson City–from Clarence Greene to the Bailey Brothers. There’s nothing like the sound of a recording made around a single microphone and captured in the grooves of a 78. They jump to life when the sound is right. And where better to listen than the Down Home? It’s going to be pretty special…you get to watch the records spin and hear music like you never have before and maybe even learn a thing or two!”
Ivy promises “it’ll move your head, your heart or your feet, and if you’re lucky, all three.”
