Blacksmiths shaped the backbone of Appalachian life. At the forge, they crafted plows, nails, hinges, and horseshoes—essentials no household or farm could do without. Their work provided the tools, repairs, and hardware that kept farms productive and transportation possible. More than craftsmen, they were problem-solvers whose skill and labor supported entire communities, leaving a legacy of resourcefulness and endurance across the mountains.
