Roots of Country Music
About Roots of Country Music
In 1927 Ralph Veer of Victor Talking Machine Company journeyed to the border town of Bristol, TN/VA in search of new talent for his recording company. What he found change the face of American music forever. The Carter Family, Stoneman Family and Jimmie Rodgers were among the acts auditioning for Peer. The legendary “Bristol Sessions” established a new genre of music – country music. A self-guided audio walking tour of historic Bristol allows visitors to retrace the footsteps of country and bluegrass pioneers. Then it's off to the legendary Carter Family Fold in Hilton’s Virginia. Sit back and be ready to be entertained with old time and bluegrass music. The Carter Fold promotes old-time music and pay tribute to the Original Carter Family (A.P Carter, Sara Carter, and Maybelle Carter). The Saturday concerts highlight the musical style made popular by the Carter Family, considered by many as country music’s first family. In keeping with the traditional music style, no electrical instruments are allowed (everything is acoustic). There’s lots of dancing and fun for the entire family.
