Stellar Static

You will get a “charge” out of all the fun we will be having in the lab in honor of Static Electricity Day!  Make static spheres dance inside our static tube, test out our static generating Fun Fly Stick, and use a balloon to attempt to move objects such as bubbles, ping-pong balls, and more!  The Eastman Discovery Lab will be open by announcement periodically throughout each day.

World Snow Day Pop-in Workshop

Stop by for some cool fun in honor of World Snow Day!  Try out some polymer snow, similar to what is used on movie sets, and take it home to use over and over.  Then make some peppermint scented snow dough and learn about print making while making a snowflake art masterpiece.  Children must be supervised at all times. Materials fee of $5 per person for Hands On! Discovery Center members, $7 per person for non-members, while supplies last.

Homeschool Day

Join us for this special day from 10am-2pm as we open our doors especially for our loyal home school visitors.  Come together to network, explore, learn, and play!  Pre-registration is required by Thursday, January 24th in order to receive the discounted Homeschool Day rate of $8 per person for ages 4+ for general admission, otherwise tickets are $10 at the door.  To make your reservation, email reservations@visithandson.org or call 423-434-4263 ext. 808.

Scout Day

Wear your scout uniform, or present your official scout ID card, and receive half price general admission for the day.  Valid only for the scout, cannot be cannot be transferred to another individual, transferred to another day, or combined with any other discount or coupon.  Not valid on Paleo Tours, Tesla Shows, memberships, or merchandise.  Groups of 10 or more require an advance registration of no less than 48 hours.

Reverse Engineering Discovery Cart

Join us during National Engineers Week for some reverse engineering and test your skills on lots of items adults would never let you take apart.  Dismantle computer towers, phones, keyboards, and more!  Reverse Engineering will be setup on our TVA Discovery Cart throughout each day.  (*Contains small parts not suitable for children 3 and under.)  FREE with paid general admission.

Imagineer It! Homeschool Drop-off Workshop

Celebrate National Engineering Week with a workshop to test your craftsmanship, skill, and ingenuity.  Create  a wearable LED light-up gadget/jewelry, build a 2-liter bottle rocket launcher, then craft and race your own alternative energy contraption.  Ages 7-12.  A healthy nut-free snack will be included.  Payment in full is required to complete registration and hold each registrant’s spot.  Register early and save big!  Cost: Early registration prior to Friday, February 8th is $15 for Hands On! members, $20 for non-members; Late registration after February 8th is $20 for Hands On! members, $25 for non-members. Cancellation is required by February 8th in order to receive a full refund. Discover some of the smallest bones in your body – the ones in your ears!  Celebrate Alexander Graham Bell’s birthday by learning about sound and how Mr. Bell used sound in many of his inventions.  Play a song on our palm pipes, listen to singing crystal water glasses, and even try out a tune on our Boomwhackers!  The Eastman Discovery Lab will be open by announcement periodically throughout each day.

Fossil & Artifact ID Night

You don’t have to be a paleontologist to find fossils, but identifying them is a different story.  Bring in any kind of rock, fossil, artifact, or mineral and scientists from the ETSU Center of Excellence in Paleontology and Gray Fossil Site will provide space for the study of these finds. There will be an archaeologist, paleontologist, and geologist on site. The event is free and open to the public but does not include admission to exhibits.
