Stellar Static

You will get a “charge” out of all the fun we will be having in the lab in honor of Static Electricity Day!  Make static spheres dance inside our static tube, test out our static generating Fun Fly Stick, and use a balloon to attempt to move objects such as bubbles, ping-pong balls, and more!  The Eastman Discovery Lab will be open by announcement periodically throughout each day.

World Snow Day Pop-in Workshop

Stop by for some cool fun in honor of World Snow Day!  Try out some polymer snow, similar to what is used on movie sets, and take it home to use over and over.  Then make some peppermint scented snow dough and learn about print making while making a snowflake art masterpiece.  Children must be supervised at all times. Materials fee of $5 per person for Hands On! Discovery Center members, $7 per person for non-members, while supplies last.

Hike to Snakeden Ridge

A 7 mile journey along the rich Flint Creek to the upland trails of Snakeden Ridge.

We will leave from the main parking lot at Noon and spend most of the day in the park enjoying biodiverse streamside to high elevation habitats. This excursion will hike along Rocky Fork Creek, Flint Creek, then we will use the Blockstand Creek Trail to climb in elevation (max. 3,400 ft) onto Snakeden Ridge, and we will return by traveling down Flint Creek. #rockyforkstatepark #getoutsidetn

Don’t forget to wear sturdy shoes/boots & to pack plenty of food, water, and rain gear.

Imagineer It! Homeschool Drop-off Workshop

Celebrate National Engineering Week with a workshop to test your craftsmanship, skill, and ingenuity.  Create  a wearable LED light-up gadget/jewelry, build a 2-liter bottle rocket launcher, then craft and race your own alternative energy contraption.  Ages 7-12.  A healthy nut-free snack will be included.  Payment in full is required to complete registration and hold each registrant’s spot.  Register early and save big!  Cost: Early registration prior to Friday, February 8th is $15 for Hands On! members, $20 for non-members; Late registration after February 8th is $20 for Hands On! members, $25 for non-members. Cancellation is required by February 8th in order to receive a full refund.
